Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC EX: 13.11.13, Swindon Honda aims to sharpen its Focus rival with some Euro-friendly revisions
HEEDING FEEDBACK FROM dealers and customers, Honda has carried out a mild dynamic and styling refresh to the Civic hatchback for 2014. The aim, says Honda, is to close the gap between the base model and the imminent Civic Type R, which is set to arrive in 2015, and also to give the car a slightly more upmarket feel. Under the skin of the ninth-generation Civic, the electronic power steering has been retuned for a more surefooted feel at higher speeds. The suspension set-up - MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam rear - remains the same, but all of the dampers have been tweaked to enhance body control, and the toe and camber have been revised at the rear. The tweaks have been carried out by the engineering team at Honda's Swindon base, which has been given a degree of autonomy from Japan to configure the car to European tastes.
