Granulocytic sarcoma with extramedullary relapse 9 years after allogeneic stem cell transplantation.

A 15-year-old male was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) of the M2 subtype in the French-American-British (FAB) classification in 2000. He was treated with induction chemotherapy with cytarabine and aclarubicin, and, after the ninth chemotherapy, achieved complete hematological remission. Next, he underwent an allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) from an unrelated donor after a conditioning regimen with total body irradiation combined with etoposide and melphalan. He had a grade II acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) skin rash, tacrolimus was administered for 8 months as a prophylaxis for GVHD. The patient maintained complete hematological remission with full donor chimerism until spring 2008.
