More than 30 years ago, two vastly different approaches helped put a man on the moon. First came the traditional scientific approach, using empirical testing to achieve a propulsion system, life support and much more. Then came the more radical approach when President John Kennedy boldly challenged the nation to put a man on the moon by decade's end. Suddenly, science plodded no longer. Before 1970, man was on the moon. Alone, probably neither approach had hope. But together, the challenge and the science fed upon each other to provide astounding results rapidly. Can two such approaches bring the beef industry closer to solving some of its thorny problems like tenderness? Perhaps.
