The late political columnist Molly Ivins once described a Congressional recess as a time when villages across the U.S. recalled their idiots. Of course, it's generally other districts' and states' representatives, not your own, who fit the characterization, but Congress seems to hold little esteem among the citizenry these days. In fact, a May 10-13 Gallup Poll found just 29% of Americans approve of the way Congress is handling its job. That's down 4 percentage points from the previous month, andthree from the 32% average measured during the first five months of the year.
