LEADING global macadamia supplier Australia is looking to drive home the idea of quality and origin on the European market in 2007 in the wake of mounting competition from fellow Southern Hemisphere exporters. According to Horticulture Australia's (HAL) Wayne Prowse, macadamia nuts currently lead the nation's exports in value terms on the European market, and are continuing to grow, ahead of citrus, stonef ruit and Pink Lady apples, boosted by the growing awareness of the nut's nutritional benefits."Australia is the only country supplier which has invested in promotion and market development for macadamia nuts, and as a result leads the market in production and quality," Mr Prowse tells Eurofruit Magazine. "However, this development has opened theopportunities for retailers to introduce their own brands of macadamia nuts, which are often sourced from alternative suppliers," he adds.
