History of the department of the genesis and amelioration of salt-affected soils, Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute

The Department of the Genesis and Amelioration of Salt-Affected Soils was organized by B.B. Polynov in the Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute in 1932. The main stages in the 70-year-long history of this department are outlined, challenges facing the researchers are discussed, and the contribution of outstanding scientists- B.B. Polynov, V.A. Kovda, A.N. Rozanov, A.G. Morozov, N.I. Bazilevich, and others-to our knowledge about salt-affected soils is elucidated.
