摘要

CHERRY growers in the Pacific Northwest region of the US are approaching the 2005 season with cautious optimism. Each year, the states of Washington and Oregon produce what they regard to be some of the finest cherries to be found anywhere in the world and, as such, demand for their product is rising on all fronts as consumers from Boston to Berlin become aware of the healthy attributes of cherries. Tasty new varieties, such as the Rainier and Sweetheart, are expanding the category and extending seasonal availability, while domestic and international retailers are increasing their cherry promotions each year as they see the positive impact to their bottom line. Nonetheless, growers in Washington and Oregon are worried about one thing, namely the weather.
