Consultation of emissions trading

The government has launched a consultation on its proposals for the second phase of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme(EU ETS).This phase will run from 2008 to 2012 and coincides with the first Kyoto commitment period.Like its UK cousin,the EU ETS is designed to give industry and incentive to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by creating a market on which spare capacity can be traded.It is being introduced across Europe to tackle the emission of greenhouse gases.It is compulsory for all 25 EU member states and covers more than 1055 installations in the UK,and more than 12000 across Europe.
