Last year's hard freeze, concerns about mid-season overproduction and a low-valued US dollar are making life difficult for this year's Clementine deal in Chile. Chilean Clementine exporters report that even though many orchards have not fully recovered from the 2007 freeze, which led to a 40 per cent drop in exports, too much of this year's fruit will be harvested in June and July - a time when North American markets are already saturated with their own, locally produced fresh fruit varieties.
