tel aviv—Russia's European embargo was meant to aid Israel's Sharon fruit exporters, but the dive in the value of the rouble has been untimely.Persimmon, better known in Israel as Sharon fruit and in Spain as kaki, isone of the leading tropical fruits exported from Israel, after avocados, pomegranates and mangoes. Total Israeli production this season - which started in September and is expected to run until March - is forecast to reach approximately 30,000 tonnes. They are grown in three main areas totalling i,350ha, in the north, centre and south of the country, thereby providing reasonable security of production.
