Juzni Banat initiates new investment programme

Privatisation has brought radical changes to Juzni Banat, Serbia's leading producer and exporter of fresh apples. THE pretty little town of Bela Crkva ('White Church') is located in the north-east of Serbia, just 2km from the Romanian border. Colonised by the Germans in the 18th century, the town's 11,000 inhabitants primarily earn their living from apple, stonefruit, table grape, sunflower, corn and wine production and it is here that Serbia's leading fresh apple producer and exporter, Juzni Banat,can be found. Set up in 1960, Juzni Banat has been under private ownership for approximately one year now, following its acquisition by Agro Market, Serbia's largest importer and wholesaler of pesticides. According to Milka Mijovic, commercial director of Juzni Banat, the privatisation process has brought radical changes to the company and an impressive investment programme that should generate new interest from overseas over the coming years.
