A gas engine is an internal combustion engine which runs on a gas fuel, such as natural gas. Generally the term gas engine refers to a heavy-duty industrial engine capable of running continuously at full-load and variable-load with high availability and reliability. Modern gas engines are usually four-stroke, spark-ignited engines operating on the "Otto" cycle and incorporating the lean-burn principles. High performance gas engines are turbocharged to force more air into the cylinders.
