The study was carried oul in the meadow and field ecosystems in 1996-1997 Ground beetles were collected using pitfall traps Ninety-two species of 29 genera were recorded Among these, 73 species were found in floodplain meadows; 75 species, in dry meadows; 57 and 55 species, in winter wheat and winter rye fields, respectively. Ten species of ground beetles predominate in the floodplain and dry meadows, and nine, in the agro-ecosystems. The eurybionls Poedlus tupreus, P. versicolor, Pterostichus melanarim, and Harpalus rufipes were dominant in all the ecosystems investigated. The similarity between the ground-beetle communities in the flood-plain meadows and the winter rye field is 73 3%; that between the communities in the meadow and the fields is 63 4%. The meadow ecosystems in the territory studied are the main reserve and source of dispersal of ground beetles to the fields. The meadows along with the fields comprise a whole ecological system.
