A comparative analysis of the morphofunctional organization of mouthparts in mature individuals of the terrestrial redbody mite Trombidium sp. Trombidiidae and the aquatic mite Hydryphantes ruber Hydryphantidae has been performed. Certain elementsof the tracheal system and the epistome complex of Trombidium sp. are described for the first time. The mouthparts of these species are similar in the details of their general organization, the structure of the gnathema capsule and chelicerae, and in the general structure of the pedipalps and the pharyngeal apparatus. This is indicative of a close phylogenetic relationship between the species studied. The structure of the mouthparts in Trombidium sp. can be regarded as initial for the group of Hydnphantes-like mites. The mouthparts of both species are classified as piercing/cutting/sucking. Differences in the structure of the tracheal system, epistome complex, apical part of the hypostome, and other elements of the gnathema are apparently explained bythe fact that the species live in different environments.
