摘要

Localized application of kinetin (KIN-25 and 50 micro g/ml) to growing terminal inflorescence (T1) greatly modified various morphophysiological and biochemical characteristics of siliquae developing on T1 KIN treatments increased length of T1, number of open flowers and siliquae formed without affecting the number of floral buds per T1. KIN also improved various yield characteristics viz., seed number per siliqua, 1000-seed weight and seed yield per inflorescence. The contents of various seed storage reserves such as total soluble sugars, starch, total free amino acids, total soluble proteins and oil also improved with KIN treatments. Compared to control, photosynthetic traits like chlorophyll content and Hill reaction activity were improved in response to KIN treatments. Anatomical studies revealed enhanced differentiation of secondary vascular tissues (xylem and phloem) in T1 of kinetin treated plants as compared to controls.
