A field experiment was conducted during 2005-07 in Hisar, Haryana, India, to study the response of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum)-wheat (Triticum aestivum) cropping system to farmyard manure and increased sowing rate. The incorporation of 10 t farmyard manure/ha to pearl millet increased the grain yields of pearl millet and wheat over the application of recommended rates of fertilizers to both crops. Farmyard manure application to pearl millet and 30% higher sowing rates for pearl millet and wheat increased the mean grain yields of pearl millet (by 10.03 and 3.50%, respectively) and wheat (by 7.60 and 2.44%) over the application of recommended fertilizer rates to pearl millet singly or in combination with 10 t farmyard manure.
