Comparative study on two commercial methods of propagation in guggul (Commiphora wightii Arnott.) an endangered medicinal plant.

Guggul can be propagated both by sexual and asexual means, but commercially it is being propagated by adopting the two most important methods of vegetative propagation viz., air layering and stem cuttings. The present investigation was carried out to determine the most suitable and economical method for guggul regeneration. From the present study it revealed that among the two commercially adopted methods of propagation, guggul plants can be multiplied successively in short span of time (40 days) with maximum number of roots (7.2) rooting percentage (97.8%) through air layering as compared to stem cuttings.
