Correlation Coefficients and Occurrence of Pest and Diseases in Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) Cultivars Under Hill Zone of Karnataka

A study was conducted to study the correlation coefficients among the quantitative characters with yield in turmeric cultivars. Plant height had highly significant and positive correlation with number of tillers per plant (+0.770), number of leaves per plant (+0.752), petiole length (+0.829), leaf area index (+0.358), number of mother rhizomes (+0.594), number of primary fingers (+0.587), number of secondary fingers (+0.854). weight of mother rhizomes (+0.793), weight of secondary fingers (+0.353). length of primary fingers (+0.432). length of secondary fingers (+0.359), cured rhizome yield per hectare (+0.396). Where as significant and positive association was observed between weight of primary fingers (+0.283) and fresh rhizome yield per plant (+0.274). Higher leaf blotch disease incidence was observed in Belgaum local (71.96,74.48, and 75.00%) and cultivar Suguna(70.63,73.04 and 76.33%) at 90.120 and 150 DAP respectively. The lowest pest incidence was observed in the cultivar Kanti (4.33,5.03 and 5.67%) followed by PTS-24 (5.60,6.33 and 6.67%) at different stages of crop growth.
