A field experiment was conducted during kharif of 2011-12 to study the nutrient uptake by cotton in response to different levels and methods of application of zinc and boron. The results of the field experiment revealed that the uptake of all the nutrient elements i.e. N, P, K, Ca Mg S, Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu and B were significantly higher due to FYM application in comparison to no FYM application. Foliar application of 200 g B ha -1 resulted in the higher uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, manganese, copper and boron. Soil application of Zn recorded significantly higher uptake of potassium. Calcium uptake was highest with 200 g B ha -1 plus 200 g Zn ha -1 treatment, while magnesium uptake by the crop was highest with 100 g B ha -1. Sulfur uptake was highest with soil application of Zn at 2 kg ha -1. Both the levels of only boron application i.e. 100 g and 200 g B ha -1 recorded significantly higher Fe uptake which indicated antagonism between Fe and Zn. A synergistic effect due to B was observed on uptake of manganese and copper, this would otherwise also indicate an antagonistic effect of Mn and Cu with Zn.
