Life table studies on Brevipalpus californicus Banks (Acarina: Tenuipalpidae).

The life table and intrinsic rate of increase of B. californicus were studied on Citrus sinensis cv. Jaffa under laboratory conditions. The life table and age-specific fecundity of B. californicus revealed that the pest occupied mean duration of 31 days for completion of immature stages, along with the pre-oviposition period. The female laid eggs for 23 days in its life span of 35 days, with maximum egg production on days 35 and 38 after the first oviposition. The maximum oviposition ranged from 2.00 to 2.60 per female per day during the ovipositional period from days 34 to 40. The net reproductive rate was 31.84, which indicated that the population had capacity to multiply 31.84 times per generation. The intrinsic rate of increase was 0.086 and the finite rate of increase was 1.089 females/female per day, which could double in number by every 8.059 days.
