Danieli units to supply new EAF, upgrade meltshop and structural mill

Gerdau Ameristeel awarded Danieli Centra Met the order for a new 110-ton electric arc furnace, to be installed at the company's Jacksonville, Fla., plant. The state-of-the-art 6.5-m-diameter shell eccentric bottom tapping EAF will feature current-conducting arms, single-point roof lift and sniveling system, and fast-operating hydraulic movements. The EAF will be equipped with a complete chemical energy package, consisting of sidewall oxygen, gas and carbon injection Hijet systems, together with lime injection. The main supply will include a highly efficient dropout chamber for completion of carbon monoxide combustion.
