An unrecorded Isleworth Creamware Teapot

Joseph Shore probably began potting at Isleworth in 1756-7 and it is likely that earthenware was the first ceramic body produced. By 1766 porcelain production seems to be taking over and by 1770 creamware production was on the wane or had ceased. Certainly the stylistic evidence from the creamware sherds points to wares of the third quarter of the eighteenth century and in many ways they were unlike those from Staffordshire or other potting centres. There are of course exceptions, such as the 'Landskip' moulded creamware teapots which both Staffordshire and Isleworth seem to have been producing.
