Wet shotcreting techniques including materials and equipment as a developing trend of monolithics worldwide have been paid attention for several years. Besides the machine, castable gelling by additives to change flowability and flocculation plays a very important role in the application. This paper details an investigation into pehaviour of flowability, flow decay or gelling of bauxite based alumina spinel castables and Al_2O_3-SiC-C castables with selected 9 types of candidate flocculants or accelerators added. In order to evaluate the flow decay behaviour, special equipment was developed by testing the quantity of castables flowing out of the mixing vessel. The results show that some, candidate additives take good gelling effect on the castables of the 2 systems. The practical application in wet shotcreting machine show that the additives are feasible and the castables can be arranged for practical use.
