SMS Demag AG to upgrade BSMCL calcium carbide facility

In April 2002, Bluestar Silicon Material Company Ltd. in Yongdeng, Ganshu Province/PR China, awarded SMS Demag AG, Germany, a contract for the conversion of a used, shut-down carbide facility to a Si-metal production plant. Production will start in the first quarter of 2003. The order includes the basic and detailed engineering for locally supplied components and the supply of special components for an SAF (Submerged Arc Furnace) from Europe. In addition, SMS Demag AG will assist in the fabrication of plant components and supervise erection and commissioning. Specialists from Bluestar and engineers from SMS Demag's Ironmaking Division had developed the concept for this conversion project within just seven months.
