Secondary spray cooling control has become one of the major factors for defect-free continuously cast slabs. Measuring the actual heat transfer coefficient and understanding the cooling performance for a spray cooling nozzle under various casting conditions is a very difficult task. Until now, all spray nozzle suppliers and caster machine builders still relied on utilizing the so-called water collector box with segmented slots to design and evaluate spray nozzles.
