Surface quality of metal strip is of increasing importance when satisfying stringent customer demands. This applies to many existing products, and certainly extends to new steel technologies for use in many industries such as electrical, automotive, appliances, and furniture. Several existing technologies are used in an attempt to adequately remove residual coolant from the metal strip on cold mills and process lines. With some of these technologies, their use requires high operating costs or constant maintenance to keep operation at a peak level. The VacuRoll System from Spraying Systems Co. is used in a variety of metals producing applications throughout the world. This system significantly reduces operating costs and maintenance requirements for a lower overall cost to the mill. It has proven effective in removing residual coolants, oils, and water as well as iron fines and contaminants from moving metal strip in a variety of configurations. With the unique variable vacuum profiles and construction techniques, the system may be optimized for use in a variety of challenging applications. The VacuRoll system's ability to perform continuing self-reconditioning directly in place allows extended operation at the highest efficiency. The result is greatly improved surface quality and reduced operating costs.
