摘要

A reheat furnace supervisory control system project was executed and completed under an aggressive schedule with no interruption to normal mill production. Implementation of the control system achieved guaranteed fuel savings and improved product quality, and enabled Ipsco to achieve their production goal of increased throughput. Since the switchover to the new system on Oct.31, 1997, the furnace has remained under level 2 control and has produced uniformly heated slabs at a consistent slab-to-slab dropout temperature. The control system uses a two-dimensional heat transfer model. The thermal model is used to calculate slab temperatures and predict furnace temperature set points during production and delays.
