Modernisation of the Automation in the Hot wide Strip Mill at Voest-Alpine Stahl Linz Gmbh

In Novermber 1992 Siemens AG received the order for the modernisation of the automation in Voest-Alpine Stahl -GmbH's wide hot strip mill. The order comprised the automation systems from the roughing mill or the coiler. Particularly the 7-stand finishing mill was to receive modern features, such as profile control by means of roll shifting the bending as well as process control supported by neural networks. A proven Mange-over system ensured minimal standstills and maximum plant change over system ensured minimal standstills and maximum plant availability during the conversion period.
