Sibur to launch DOTP project, mulls new rubber plant with Saudi investors

Sibur’s Perm, Russia-based subsidiary and the Perm Territory government have signed an agreement to build a dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) plant. Under terms of the agreement, a new 100,000-metric tons/year DOTP plant will be built at Perm with production scheduled to start in 2019. The product is used as a general-purpose plasticiser. Sibur will provide feedstock to the new facility. Sibur says the project will be an import-substitution investment. Russia is short of 60,000 metric tons/year of general purpose plasticizers which it currently imports from Europe. Aekyung Petrochemical Daejeon, South Korea, will provide its DOTP technology while NIPIgaspererabotka, a leading Russian research centre, will design the plant. Russian contractors will be engaged in construction and commissioning of the facility.
