Smaller instruments project may lead to smaller satellites

The European space agency (ESA) has awarded Qinetiq with a 210,000 pounds contract to develop two demonstrators featuring its unique, hollow waveguide (HWG) technology, with the aim of improving instrumentation used in micro satellites. If successful, a whole range of instruments could be developed offering improved performance and reliability with reduced cost. Smaller overall, they could also enable the satellites to become smaller still.
