We thank Dr. Bell for his interest in our article. He suggested that the use of premixed or separate insulin pen injections for the delivery of the morning insulin could have been a better option to minimize the risk of inaccuracies, daytime hypoglycemia, and inferior glycernic control. The benefits of using insulin pens for diabetes therapy have been well described in the literature; however, children with new-onset diabetes have characteristics and needs that necessitate the use of different standards and present unique challenges in insulin dosing.
