ONLINE NIR PHOTOMETER APPLICATIONS

Online near infrared (NIR) filter photometers have been used for process control applications for more than 30 years. The NIR covers the 800-2500 nm region of the electromagnetic spectrum. NIR photometers have established a reputation for reliable performance and low maintenance operation. Filter photometers measure light intensity at selected reference and measure wavelengths. The optical filters used are narrow band pass optical filters that pass light at discrete wavelengths in the NIR spectral region. The use of multiple optical filters has greatly expanded the capability of photometers to handle multiple interferences and multi-component applications. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the implementation of NIR photometers and to provide an overview comparing NIR filter photometers to full spectrum NIR spectrophotometers.
