Oxy Wins Ecuador Arbitration Award . The World Bank's International Centre for Settlement of In vestment Disputes has ordered Ecuador to pay US Occidental Petroleum some $1,769 billion in damages related to the seizure of the company's in-country assets in 2006. At that time, the Ecuadorean government accused Oxy of selling a stake in a 100,000 b/d oil block without state authorization, and subsequently terminated the firm's contract. Oxy dismissed the claim and sought arbitration. Ecuador's attorney general reportedly said that Oxy wanted nearly $3.4 billion in damages, but even with the lower award his country may appeal, with Ecuador only willing to pay up to $417 million.
