Greenland awarded seven upstream exploration licenses to foreign oil and gas companies in its Baffin Bay licensing round after tightening the rules and financial requirements for drilling in the Arctic frontier province amid offshore safety concerns. The seven tracts cover 70,768 square kilometers in the prospective northwestern area offshore Greenland — bringing the total upstream acreage granted offshore Greenland to 200,000 sq km, split between the Baffin Bay, West Greenland and South Greenland Basins.
