摘要

The western economies continue to decline, but oil prices surged from mid-October to their highest levels in three months as world demand continues to grow while supply is seen tightening going into 2012. Brent held strong in the US$110-$115 range while US WTI broke through US$90 after being held back at US$80-85 for weeks. Brent is on course to average US$100 or more a barrel a full year for the first time. Analysts at Barclays Capital, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank and International Energy Agency (IEA) have joined Goldman Sachs in forecasting rising oil prices in the months ahead as supply tightness outweighs demand concerns in the West. At a briefing in September, Goldman said it expects Brent to climb to US$130 a barrel next year after holding around US$110 for months.
