Bilbao refinery receives WCS and Olmeca crudes

Spain’s Repsol has received about 77,560t (530,000 bl) of Western Canadian Select (WCS) crude at its recently upgraded 220,000 b/d Petronor refinery in Bilbao amid protests from local environmental groups against the use of the oil, most of which originates from Canadian oil sands. Repsol says the protesters, about 50 of whom gathered at the gates of the refinery on 29 May, will not affect the processing of the crude, adding that the refinery is perfectly adapted to processing heavy crudes like 20.5° API WCS.
