The two main advantages of the CBM-strategy compared with the Event Based Maintenance (EBM) and Regular Based Maintenance (RBM) strategies are: maintenance can be effectively planned; and average end of life-time of the cable and accessories is extended. CBM strategy is being driven by the fact that a lot of power companies are now either privatised or corporatised. As such there is a greater restriction in available funds for simply replacing cables by age. Governments are implementing targets and legislation for power companies where there are now penalties to be paid to consumers for non-delivered services.
