US Gulf coast crude will move in increasing volumes to Quebec, Canada, where Valero operates the 265,000 b/d St. Romauld refinery, company chief executive Bill Klesse said during an earnings call with analysts. St. Romauld’s crude slate can shift up to 90pc of the refinery’s crude slate to light, sweet crudes produced in Texas and western Canada. Valero has plans to run western Canadian syncrude and sweet crude at the refinery, and has long believed a glut of production out of fields like the Eagle Ford shale of south Texas will push light sweet foreign crude imports out of the US Gulf coast.
