China’s thermal coal imports in 2014 are likely to at least match the level of last year amid a low possibility that the low-grade coal ban will come into effect this year. Chinese thermal coal imports will remain broadly unchanged from 208mn t last year or will increase by 5mn- 10mn t primarily because supply is increasing, director of Avra Commodities Ben Burgess said. China imported 78.4mn t in the first four months of this year, higher by 8.9mn t from January- April last year.
