Colombian coke exports plummet in October

Colombian petroleum coke exports plunged by 86pc month-onmonth in October. State-controlled Ecopetrol’s 165,000 b/d Cartagena refinery, known as Reficar, shipped just one small cargo abroad. The 7,288t cargo loaded onto the UBC Miami at the Caribbean port of Mamonal in Cartagena bay on 12 October, bound for Barbados cement company Arawak. In September Reficar exported one supramax vessel with 52,000t, according to shipping agency Deep Blue. This was preceded by 79,700t in August and 49,100t in July. Recent destinations include China, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus and Mexico. Reficar could not be reached for comment on last month’s abrupt decline. Market participants say the company could be accumulating inventory.
