Indian state port coal volumes edge up in April

India’s 12 key state-controlled ports handled 8.76mn t of thermal coal in April, the frst month of the country’s 2016-17 fscal year. The amount of thermal coal handled by the ports during the month was marginally higher than 8.73mn t a year earlier and around 6pc higher than a monthly average of 8.26mn t during 2015-16 that ended on 31 March, according to prelimi- nary data from the Indian Ports Association (IPA).
