In late November 2008, INGAL EPS set up a proof test at their Minto site in NSW, to test two 14m 16kN (Ultimate) capacity poles; a popular length in their recently released distribution pole range. The steel poles were manufactured as two sections (slip jointed), tapered 12-sided and designed to be direct buried. One was tested for internal purposes only whilst the second pole tested was witnessed by 18 Integral Energy design and field staff. The pole test for Integral Energy was conducted in order to validate the calculated design capacity of the pole and was carried out in accordance with AS/ NZS 4676 requirements. The pole was installed vertically and direct buried to the required embedment depth of two metres. "Five sub tests were performed on the by applying a load horizontally at 290mm below the pole tip.
