Basslink celebrates one year anniversary

The link celebrated its first anniversary on the weekend it began full operation at midnight on April 28, 2006. After one year in operation, the 360 kilometre electricity link between Victoria and Tasmania has achieved over 99 per cent availability, which is a world-class performance for this type of asset. Basslink managing director Mr Bill Russell said it had been a very successful first year of operations. "Basslink has proven invaluable as it continues to drought-proof Tasmania and supply the mainland with electricity during critical times of peak demand. "During its first year of operations it has supplied 1920GWh to Tasmania and 450GWh to the National Electricity Market.
