Global coking coal markets to remain oversupplied

Global coking coal markets are likely to remain oversupplied as most major producers continue to increase output, despite weak prices. But supply could contract if US producers retreat from the international market. Most large Australian coking coal producers have increased output to maintain take-or-pay contracts, with supply from the top five producers rising sharply in January-March compared with the same period last year, said Peter Doyle, head of marketing at Australia’s Atrum Coal.
