The Chinese government is unlikely to raise the import tax on high-sulphur petroleum coke as many market participants had feared. A tax on imports will not only threaten to further slow China’s GDP growth, but it will also be ineffective at solving the country’s pollution problems, panelists said at the Argus Asia Petroleum Coke conference last week.
