FIELD trials were carried out during two successive winter seasons 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 in order to investigate the yield response of barley grown on sodic-saline soil and some chemical properties of the soil, due to application some soil amendments such as Gypsum (2 ton fed~(-1)), Sulfur (0.37 ton fed~(-1)), Potassium sulphate (48kg fed~(-1)) and compost (2 ton fed~(-1)), under two tillage depth (shallow 15cm and deep 30 cm). Application of gypsum, sulfur, K_2SO_4 or compost reduced the soil EC,SAR, CI, Na and ESP compared to the treatment without amendments. However, the soil treated with gypsum or compost under deep tillage had lower values of EC, SAR, CI and Na in comparison to other treatments. Organic matter, available P, K and N in soil were increased due to application of compost under both tillage depth compared to other treatments. The plants that received compost under two tillage depths also had higher grains and straw yields when compared with other treatments. The combined betweencompost and both tillage depths were more effective in improving soil chemical properties.
