The millennium round of the WTO negotiations and the future of EU agricultural policy

The new WTO agricultural Round should deepen the liberalisation movement which was initiated during the Uruguay Round. Although participating Countries widely agree with the new WTO rules, they may have very different views of WTO's future. The EU will be put under pressure in order to cut its subsidies to agricultural exports. When adopting Agenda 2000, it has made a big step in that direction for grain markets but, for other products, there is still much to be done.
