Around 70 participants from Italy,France,Greece,Spain,other countries from the Mediterranean and the USA attended.There was much discussion regarding the previous attempts to develop SIT for olive fly control.During the 1970 and 80s researchers in Greece conducted basic research on biology,mass rearing,quality control and irradiation protocols.It was concluded that very good progress on the development of the SIT technology package was achieved.Nevertheless improvements are still needed to reduce costs of mass rearing and ensure mating compatibility of mass reared and wild insects.
