First of type for NJ Turnpike - A US road authority is opting for open-road tolling

The recent upgrading of three tolling plazas on the Garden State Parkway in the US state of New Jersey is the latest practical example of one phase of a major improvement programme being implemented by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA). The plazas are using the Vector Express solution from ACS State & Local Solutions to enable open-road tolling (ORT). This is being achieved in conjunction with the introduction of alternating one-way tolling and the expansion of the dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) E-ZPass electronic fee collection (EFC) system across the NJTA network At one of the plazas, Raritan, the effect is the completion of a 'first of type' ORT environment.
