摘要

Aueous extracts from leaves of two aromatic and medicinally important plants Citrus limon and Murraya koenigii were tested for their antibacterial activity against Erwinia herbicola, E. uredovora, E amylovora, E. stewartii, Psuedomonas syringae, P. viridiflava and Xanthomonas compestr/s isolated from leaf surface of the above two test plants Investigations revealed that aqueous extract from leaves of Gtrus limon inhibited the growth Erwinia herbicola, E, amylovora, E. stenvortii, R viridiflava and P.syringae whereas leaf extract from M. koenigii inhibited the growth of E. uredovora, E. stewartii, P. syringae and X. compesten's, Inhibitory effect of leaf extracts from C. limon was totally absent on E. uredovora and X. campestr/s whereas aqueous extract from M. koenigii leaves did not inhibit the growth of E. herbicola, E. amylovora and P. viridiflava. Thus the present study reveals that the platn extracts from the two test plants have potential bacteriostatic/bacte-ricidal effect and can be used asbicontrol agents.
